FAMILY FUN DAY
September 20, 2008
The Treasure Coast Chapter of Junior Teen and Teen Anglers held a family fun
day at the Dockside Inn in Ft. Pierce. Before I go any further I need to
thank a few people -- Dockside Inn for letting us host the event there,
Pursuit Boats and Gulfstream Fishing Products for all the prizes they donated
like hats, visors, redfish jigs, Storm baits, water bottles, tote bags, key
chains, a 5 foot cast net and many more things.
We started the day off with 4 clinic's -- knot trying with Capt. Chris Nelson,
cast net throwing with Capt. Rob Ward, hooking a live bait with Capt. Joe Ward
and rod casting with Tammy Ward. The Teen's had to go to all 4 stations
to compete in the cast net throwing and the rod casting contest. For the
rod casting competition we had 5 hula hoops with a prize in each -- which ever
one you landed in you got to keep that prize. We did have 4 Teen's that
hit it dead center. In the cast net throwing competition we had to have
a throw off with the top 4. Each Teen got 2 chance's to throw the
net and have it open into a circle. Ricky Eisen, Ariel Vance, Justin Roe
and Austin Doyle were the top 4. It was very, very close but in the end
Justin Roe came out the winner with 2 perfect circles and plenty of applause
from the by stander.

Our dock fishing contest started at 1:30pm and ran to 3:30pm. We
hade 41 Teen's fishing and 10 different species of fish that were weighed
in by volunteer -- Bob Bergen. After everyone had weighed in the
biggest fish trophy & goodie bag went Dylora Kohler. The
trophy and goodie bag or the most fish caught went to Ricky Eisen.
With 41 Teen's fishing off of 5 docks the poor fish didn't have a chance.
During the fishing contest Suzanne Bernetti and I made 100 snow cones to
keep everyone cool. To say that the snow cone's were a hit would
be and under statement.
I need to thank Capt. Rob Ward, Capt. Al Bernetti, Capt. Chris Nelson
and Capt. Joe Ward for manning the grill in the hot sun to cook all the
hamburgers and hot dogs. Thank you to all the families that
brought such great side dishes like the fruit salad, pasta salads,
potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw and the list just goes on.
Also, all the wonderful home made deserts that were there.
With all the positive feed back we have gotten this may turn into a
yearly event.
